Skills You Will Acquire

In this course, you will learn about…

  • The Conservation Agriculture approach to sustainable agriculture
  • Soil – a living, breathing organisms
  • Minimum / zero tillage
  • Maintaining crop diversity (mixed, rotation, intercropping, agroforestry)
  • Maintaining soil cover (mulching, cover cropping, crop residue management)
  • Farm soil and water conservation (contour, pits, trench farming)
  • Irrigation practices for conserving water (SRI/bottle/drip)
  • Integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) and integrated plant nutrients management
  • Organic fertilizers/manure (compost, farm yard, green manure, liquid-top dressing manure)
  • Integrated pest and weed management (IPM and IWM) – organic
  • Working tools in Conservation Agriculture (from small to large scale operations)

Course Objectives

After participating in this course, participants should be able to…

  • increase their yield by implementing the learned crop management practices.
  • contribute to environment conservation instead of harming nature with their practices.
  • improve soil fertility and prevent erosion.

The course includes a combination of classroom sessions, practical demonstrations, and field visits to successful Conservation Agriculture farms. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with experienced farmers and learn from their practical experiences. The training will be conducted at our Farmer Training Centre (FTC) in Vianzi, Mvomero District, Morogoro.
